Manhunt launched for persons behind KPH attack

The police have launched a manhunt for hoodlums who carried out an attack on the compound of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) yesterday, causing panic among staff, patients and visitors.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that the chaos started about 4:25 in the afternoon when a businessman was attacked by armed thugs in the car park.

A policeman who was on the KPH compound challenged the gunmen and this led to an exchange of gunfire which ended along Luke Lane, where the men escaped.

Regional Director of the South East Regional Health Authority, Errol Greene, says an ambulance was damaged in the shooting.

“[The] ambulance was from May Pen, from the southern region. The driver had a near miss. Some damage was done to the vehicle, but there were no injuries or casualties as a result of the trading of the gunshots,” said Greene who will be meeting with staff today.
