Minister of Energy and Transport Daryl Vaz says 10 mobile fuel stations will be up and running by next Monday.
Mr. Vaz said this move is part of efforts to ease fuel shortages caused by Hurricane Melissa.
According to Minister Vaz, most gas stations in the western end of the island have already started reopening following the storm's destruction.
But he said the mobile stations will help ensure more communities have access to fuel as the recovery continues.
"[These are] fuel stations that will go out to specific areas, guided by the JDF and ODPEM, that will be able to set up and operate on generators and will also be able to sell kerosene, which is very, very important at this time. But I expect that most, based on the report, most petrol stations are reopening and have made arrangements to be able to supply especially in the hardest hit areas," he noted.
Minister Vaz said the government is arranging for police escorts to navigate the traffic as well as for security reasons.
