Lyttleton Shirley, Chairman of the Morant Bay Urban Centre Development
Chairman of the Morant Bay Urban Centre Development Lyttleton Shirley says the project should be completed in January 2025.
Mr. Shirley, who is also Chairman of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica, says despite the delays there has been no cost overrun.
"It is going to be, at this stage, the second year of construction. We were supposed to have completed it in September. Unfortunately due to delays, weather conditions, and on a major site like this you can understand there will be delay. We are proud to say that we are still within budget. We are still operating for a completed date of January 2025."
The $6 billion urban centre will sit on 28-acres of land and will house about 50 public and private-sector entities.
"It's the first of its kind to be built in Jamaica as urban renewal to fuse government entities and private sector entities together to form one major campus for efficiency, job creation, economic opportunities and investment opportunities," he touted.
Mr. Shirley revealed that the government has acquired more lands adjacent to the property for another development.
He could not say when construction would begin, only that it would be for small businesses.
