Transport Minister Daryl Vaz

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says provisions will be made to increase the availability of Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses on hill routes in St. Andrew for the new school year.
Mr. Vaz said passengers have been complaining about inadequate buses along these routes.
The routes - 83, 52, 53, and 54 - go "all the way up to Temple Hall, up above Constant Spring, Stony Hill, and of course, Papine going up towards Gordon Town and interior areas," Mr. Vaz outlined.
With the addition of more buses on these routes, the minister promised commuters would see "improvement and overall waiting times reduced, obviously depending on traffic congestion".
Earlier this week, the Transport Minister said emergency repairs are being conducted on disabled JUTC buses as part of a major push to increase the number of units deployed at the start of the new school year.
Speaking Wednesday at a post cabinet press briefing, Mr. Vaz said the increased number of units will bring some relief to students and other commuters who have grown increasingly frustrated with the long wait time for JUTC buses.
Fifty new buses arrived last week and will be added to the bus company's fleet for the new school year which begins on September 4.
