The Government has given the clearest indication yet that more companies are set to enter the mobile phone market.
This follows the passage of amendments to the Telecommunications Act in Parliament on Tuesday.
Digicel and LIME are currently the two mobile phone providers in Jamaica.
Minister with responsibility for the Telecoms sector, Phillip Paulwell, is confident that based on the legislative changes, more mobile phone providers will be enticed set up operations in Jamaica.
He has hinted that an announcement in that regard will be made soon.
