Delano Seiveright, Senior Tourism Strategist
By Prince Moore
The Ministry of Tourism is reporting more than three million tourist arrivals in Jamaica up to mid September.
This equals the arrivals for the corresponding period last year.
Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry, Delano Seiveright said several factors disrupted visitor arrivals to the country: The effects of the US travel advisories, Hurricane Beryl and airlift issues, among others.
"We simply do not have enough airlift coming to the destination, to keep up with the demand," Mr Seiveright elaborated.
He highlighted the current US presidential election season as another factor, saying "that tends to be a distraction in tourism markets..."
Mr Seiveright said the ministry and its partners are working on a number of initiatives to boost travel to Jamaica, with special focus added airlift.
"We've had growth in the number of hotel rooms... so what we're seeing is that there's more inventory in Jamaica but the airlift has pretty much remained the same, or slightly declined."
That anomaly must be addressed, he stressed.
