Morris calls for implementation of Disabilities Act

Senator Dr. Floyd Morris, Opposition Spokesman on Social Security, is calling for the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to provide an update to the nation regarding the implementation of the Disabilities Act.

In a statement Friday morning, Dr. Morris noted that four years after the legislation was approved by Parliament, the ministry has not implemented it.

He said this is a crucial piece of legislation that must be immediately implemented to eliminate discrimination confronting persons with disabilities.

Dr. Morris added that the more than 400,000 persons with disabilities in the island are banking on the legislation for improvements in their lives.

He said the Labour and Social Security Ministry must therefore move with alacrity to implement it.
