Motorcyclist dead, pillion rider hospitalised after St. Thomas crash

A motorcyclist is dead and his pillion rider admitted in hospital in serious condition following a collision on the Lloyd's Pen main road in Yallahs, St. Thomas on Wednesday morning.
 
The deceased is a 27-year-old road construction worker, Lamar Allen, of Bayshore, Harbour View in St. Andrew.
 
According to reports, about 8:10, two motorcyclists were travelling in an easterly direction towards Morant Bay when on reaching a section of the Lloyd's Pen main road in the vicinity of South Haven Boulevard, one of the motorcyclists overtook a vehicle at a corner and veered into the path of a grey Toyota Hiace bus travelling in the opposite direction.
 
The bus driver attempted to avoid a collision, but the motorcyclist slammed into his vehicle.
 
The impact forced the bus driver off the road and into a ditch.
 
The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene, while his pillion rider was taken to hospital by fire personnel from the Yallahs Fire Station.
 
The bus driver and a passenger received minor injuries.
 
The passenger spoke with Radio Jamaica News before going to the hospital for treatment. 
 
"Mi bredrin just come a mi gate come pick mi up, cah a suh we a guh. When wi ketch yah suh wi see di bike man come round di corner. Ah overtake dem overtake. When dem see di bus, dem dun already inna eh bus," he lamented. 
 
He said the bus driver, although frightened, tried to swerve from the crash but ended up in the ditch.
