Reggae icon Neville O'Reilly Livingstone, popularly known as Bunny Wailer, was among 171 Jamaicans who received national awards at the annual ceremony at Kings House on Monday morning.
Bunny Wailer was the sole recipient of the Order of Merit.
Bunny Wailer is the only surviving member of the original Wailing Wailers group, with Livingstone, Bob Marley, and Peter Tosh being the most prominent.
In the meantime, Track and Field coach Stephen Francis, West Indies cricketer Christopher Gayle, communication specialist Dr. Marcia Forbes, Commissioner of Police George Quallo, Chief of Defense Staff Major General Rocky Meade, Senator Don Wehby and Justice Bryan Sykes were among 40 recipients of the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander.
RJR's Portland correspondent Marguerite Gauron received the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service.
Gallantry
There were seven recipients of the Badge of Honour for Gallantry.
Among them Jermaine Riley, Jamawno Riley and Ramone Peart for risking their lives to save neighbours trapped by flood waters in Sunnyside, Linstead, St.Catherine in May this year.
Another awardee was Howard Garcia for rescuing a man from the the treacherous waters of the Rio Cobre on May 16 this year.
Eleven year old Anna-Kay Martin was rewarded for her bravery in rescuing three of her siblings from a fire at their home and Critical Care Nurse Davia Tucker was awarded for rescuing patients from a fire in the Intensive Care Unit at Bustamante Hospital for Children on January 12, this year.
Tremayne Brown, who rescued 12 year-old Reynaldo Reynolds from flood waters in a gully in Trench Town last month, was also awarded a Badge of Gallantry.
