The Ministry of Education has announced that schools will reopen, as scheduled, on September 1, despite the parliamentary general election being scheduled for September 3.
The ministry says schools to be used as polling stations will close at noon on September 2, while all schools will close on September 3 to facilitate the elections.
Schools will resume the following day, using a mix of online and face-to-face teaching, with full face-to-face resumption on September 5.
Consequently, the Christmas holidays will be from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026.
In an advisory to schools, a day after Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness announced the election date, the ministry said the decision regarding the reopening of schools was taken in consultation with the Jamaica Teachers' Association, National Parent Teacher Association of Jamaica, other education stakeholders and the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
