Residents of Portmore, St. Catherine are to benefit from a Transport Centre.
Transport Minister Dr. Omar Davies says the government will be signing an agreement with a Belgian contractor consisting of the firms which built the Half Way Tree Transport Centre.
Davies told Parliament on Tuesday that the Portmore Transport Centre will be built over a 24-month period at the cost 47 million Euros .
He also announced that new transportation arrangements will be in place for commuters in
downtown Kingston. The changes will be implemented in June.
“The new arrangement will see improvements in the operation of JUTC and PPV vehicles regulated by the Transport Authority. the arrangement will create a reduction in the number of JUTC buses parked in the Parade area as the buses will be located away from the site and dispatched to Parade on an as needed basis.”
Jamaica Railway Corporation
He said the Jamaica Railway Corporation’s enterprise team is reviewing an updated proposal from one of two firms which expressed an interest in the entity's operations and assets.
International Airports
The transport minister disclosed that the government has short listed five potential bidders for the privatization of the Norman Manley International Airport and they will be invited to participate in a Request for Proposal.
“These five firms are from Europe, Asia and South America. We take particular short listed consortiums include Jamaican partners …… bidding documents will be issued in June.”
Concerning the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, he said the ownership of the company managing the airport, has changed.
