The Office of the Contractor General has taken an interest in the now controversial sale by the Urban Development Corporation of the Oceana property in downtown, Kingston.
RJR News has learnt that the OCG has launched an investigation into the sale to the Canadian based real estate group, Downing Street Realty Partners.
The Downing Street group paid J$385 million but news emerged that the Accountant General's Department has spent over $400 million to renovate and alter a section of the same building.
The OCG's probe is expected to place special emphasis on the sale and renovations.
Former UDC Chairman, Senator K. D. Knight, this week took umbrage to Finance Minister Audley Shaw's statement that the sale was the subject of a sweetheart deal.
Pan Jam, the local partner of the Downing Street group, said it welcomes an independent investigation into the UDC sale.
In 2013, the OCG had taken an interest in the process of the sale.
The agency examined the minutes of a UDC board meeting dated December 18, 2013 which highlighted the sale for $385 million.
This money according to the OCG report was to be paid in two phases.
