The St. Catherine North Police have pledged to take a firm stance against illegal vending, robberies, extortion and other antisocial activities during the Christmas season.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Constantine Bennett, said that officers, including office personnel and police trainees, will be highly visible across the parish, particularly in business districts, to maintain order and prevent criminal disruptions.
DSP Bennett was speaking at Thursday's monthly meeting of the Council of the St. Catherine Municipal Authority.
DSP Bennett also highlighted the importance of community support in sustaining crime reductions.
He noted that compared to the similar period last year, murders have fallen from 90 to 62, a 29 per cent decline.
Shootings have dropped 22 per cent, moving from 72 to 56 incidents.
DSP Bennett said the police will redouble efforts during the festive season to combat migrant criminal activities and other acts that threaten peace.
Several councillors pledged that the local planning authorities will work to educate citizens on lawful conduct and civic responsibility.
