Friday’s official takeover of the operations of Air Jamaica by Caribbean Airlines has not gone down well.
Scores of passengers were hopping mad on Friday afternoon after they learnt that their New York flight was again grounded following its cancellation on Thursday.
Up to press time passengers were still unclear whether they would spend another night not knowing if they will eventually leave for home.
It's understood that there were boisterous verbal confrontations between angry passengers and representatives of Caribbean Airlines.
One passenger, Donovan Hyatt spoke with our newsroom about his experience at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
“We were supposed to leave at 6:10 yesterday (Thursday) when we got to the airport we were sitting down waiting fro boarding until they announced that the flight was cancelled indefinitely.”
Mr. Hyatt said after the long wait passengers were taken to a nearby hotel where they spent the night. However after getting a few hours sleep passengers were advised to hurry to the airport only to find out there was no available flight.
“A lot of passengers have perishable foods and we are thinking of throwing them out. People are tired and miserable” said Mr. Hyatt.
The airline’s reservations department is expected to be relocated to Trinidad and Tobago as part of the new operations.
Efforts to reach Caribbean Airlines head of Corporate Communications Laura Asbjornsen were unsuccessful.
