Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips has said he is expecting that additional resources will be allocated to the Jamaica Constabulary Force in the upcoming 2019/2020 Estimates of Expenditure, especially with the Government's pledge of intense security presence remaining despite the ending of the states of emergency.

The last state of emergency, which is in St. James, ends on Thursday.

Dr. Phillips believes that for too long, under both administrations, much has been demanded of the JCF, with inadequate resources.

"We raised issues when used cars were being ordered for the police force and they got none... So you can't ask police to confront the criminal reality and starve them of cars, and when you do get cars, you cut the money for gas," he contended.

Dr. Phillips stated that additional funds for the JCF should not be a challenge for the Government in light of pronouncements that revenue has exceeded targets.

He was speaking Monday at a St. Catherine Municipal Corporation town hall meeting.
