Administrators at Oracabessa Primary School in St. Mary are in dialogue with the Ministry of Education and the National Education Trust to accelerate the rebuilding of classrooms destroyed by fire last month.

Classes were suspended but have since resumed.

Three classrooms made of wood, which were separate from the main concrete building, were destroyed, resulting in an estimated $5 million in damage.

In an update Monday morning, principal Winsome Forbes told Radio Jamaica News that electricity has been restored to most of the buildings at the school.

"Three classes are out of electricity and we are moving to have that restored in short order. Some of the wires were damaged during the fire, and so we know we have to ensure that proper restoration is done to those classes," she noted.

While she did not mention a timeline, the principal suggested that a meeting with personnel from the National Education Trust and the Ministry of Education, to expedite the restoration process, was fruitful.
