Halshane Burke reports
By Halshane Burke
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has instructed the National Water Commission (NWC) to respond to concerns raised by several St. Ann residents over exorbitant rates.
Several residents of Malvern Park in Davis Town complained that between November and December last year their bills increased by as much as 400 per cent.
Following initial complaints by the residents, the water agency advised them that it sent personnel to inspect the properties in question and found no leak or defective metres.
This did not sit well with the residents, many of whom say they were not informed of when the visit was scheduled and several of them noted that NWC personnel would not have been able to gain access to their premises to conduct an inspection.
The residents wrote to the NWC requesting a recheck of the instrument used to take the meter readings, or any other possible cause of the irregularity and an adjustment in their bills.
They also sent a copy of the letter to the Office of Utilities Regulation.
The regulator instructed the NWC to review and respond to the complaint of the customers and update it accordingly.
