The owner of the four-storey building in Lawrence Tavern,
St. Andrew, parts of which collapsed on Sunday killing a contractor and
injuring four other workers has been given more time to demolish the structure.
On Monday, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) issued instructions for the building to be demolished within 24 hours as it was declared to be unsafe.
Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, says the owner visited the offices of the Corporation and pleaded for the withdrawal of the demolition order.
However, his request was denied.
Mr. McKenzie says the KSAC has given until this weekend for the building to be torn down.
