PNP concerned about safety of Rear Admiral Lewin’s wife

The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) says it views with great concern what it regard as irresponsible the actions of former Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and its lead counsel, Frank Phipps in disclosing the identity and employment details of the wife of the former Commissioner of Police, Rear-Admiral Hardley Lewin at Monday morning’s sitting of the Manatt/Dudus Commission of Enquiry at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.

In a statement Monday afternoon, the PNP said it is of the view that the line of questioning by Mr. Phipps, while clearly designed to discredit Rear Admiral Lewin, could also be far more damaging as it has potentially exposed the former Commissioner of Police’s wife to grave danger, given the sensitive nature of her employment.

In this regard, Mr. Phipps’s actions are callous and insensitive and must be condemned.

The Party is also concerned about what it said appears to be the clear intent of the JLP to attack and call into question, the character of witnesses summoned to the Enquiry in furtherance of the country’s search for truth about the engagement of United States-Based law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips.

According to the PNP, it believe that if this trend continues, the Manatt/Dudus Commission will only serve to impugn the character of dedicated public servants and discourage others from serving in the national interest.
