PNP giving support to Clifton settlers whose houses were demolished

There could be a legal showdown between the government and residents affected by last Thursday's demolition of houses near Clifton in Bernard Lodge, St Catherine.

The opposition People's National Party has announced that it will be assisting the residents with legal fees.

Opposition Leader Mark Golding said he had been following the developments.

In a Twitter post, Mr Golding said the residents will seek compensation for their losses.

A team from the PNP visited the community on Sunday.

Mr Golding noted that the affected residents are traumatised by the demolition of their houses.

He said further action will be taken against the government for demolishing homes without due process, but did not give details of the actions that will be pursued.
