PNP hits out at JLP efforts to 'belittle' Golding

PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell

People's National Party (PNP) General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell says the ruling Jamaica Labour Party has built its entire political campaign on mocking and belittling PNP President Mark Golding, but its efforts have failed.

Addressing party supporters at a meeting in St. James on Sunday night, Dr. Campbell argued that Mr. Golding's rise in popularity among the electorate has forced Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness to delay calling the general election.

"When dem get on platform and say dem have problems, what are the problems that dem seh dem have? Dem seh dem have a problem because him complexion lighter than the rest of wi. We have a motto in Jamaica that says, 'out of many, one people'. Mi nuh care if you black or white or brown or yellow or purple, what I care about is how you deal with people, and Mark Golding is an individual [who] loves people," said Dr. Campbell, who also scoffed at criticism about Mr. Golding's use of Jamaican patois.

"They are so desperate that they built their entire campaign around his nationality.... They built their campaign not around the people, not about what they're going to do for the people; they built an entire campaign about the same man weh dem seh couldn't beat dem them. Oh, look at us now. They running scared," said the PNP general secretary.
