The People's National Party is promising to pursue the enactment of fixed election dates and term limits if it forms the next government.
PNP member, Donna Scott Mottley, speaking at the unveailing of the party's election manifesto on Tuesday evening, said there are also plans to strength parliamentary accountability.
"We shall introduce impeachment and recall," she declared, to great applause, promising as well that committees of Parliament will once again be chaired by opposition members, "because; trust me, that is how you ensure that everybody upholds the values which they pledged to do when they took the oath, under the constitution as they were sworn-in."
It's been almost a decade since Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness promised fixed election dates, term limits on the office of Prime Minister, impeachment for rouge parliamentarians and a grand referendum to address issues such as abortion, buggery and the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Those promises have not been kept.
But Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte has said the move towards fixed election dates remains under active consideration.
