Some supporters of the People's National Party in Portland Eastern say they will be working with attorney Isat Buchanan in his bid to become Member of Parliament.

Mr. Buchanan was on Tuesday announced as the caretaker for the constituency.

Radio Jamaica News gauged the reactions of constituents in Port Antonio, who said despite Mr. Buchanan being an unknown, he will be welcomed.

"I feel very elated. Honestly, we need a change in East Portland. And for the longest while we haven't had any member of Parliament or anybody away from Mr. Colin Bell. So we welcome him with open arms, hoping that he will do better than what is happening at this time," said one woman.

Other constituents expressed confidence in a victory against Member of Parliament Ann-Marie Vaz of the Jamaica Labour Party.

"A him aguh be the MP fi [East] Portland," one supporter asserted confidently.

"If all di PNP decide seh, yes, we a come out come vote election day, anybody weh PNP put up, Labourite nuh stand no chance," another declared.

Mr. Buchanan replaces Colin Bell, who resigned last month amid what he called a lack of support.

The PNP said with the selection of Mr. Buchanan, it now has all 63 representatives in place as it prepares to contest the general election, constitutionally due next September.
