Police Federation Chairman to seek stay of interdiction today

Attorney-at-law Hugh Wildman

Lawyers for Corporal Rohan James, Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, will be applying to the Supreme Court today for a stay of the Police Commissioner's decision to interdict him.

The application was filed last week on behalf of Corporal James, challenging the decision.

Attorney Hugh Wildman, representing Corporal James, told Radio Jamaica News that the interim application seeks to reverse the decision until the matter is determined by the full court.

Corporal James was interdicted for his comments about overtime pay at a funeral last month.

Based on Police Service Regulations, he will only to receive three-quarters of his salary, hand over all items of government property, and cannot leave the country without permission from the Governor-General.

Corporal James has been served with multiple charges and is slated to appear before a Court of Enquiry.

The Parliamentary Opposition, civic groups and the trade union movement have come to his defence and chastised the Police Commissioner for his decision.
