President of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Ransford Davidson, is calling for residents to assist the police in solving crime.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has been making progress in fighting crime in the parish, with 50 homicides recorded up to December 13. This is 29 fewer than the corresponding period last year.
But Dr. Davidson said residents can do more to help the police achieve further gains.
"As a community, people of Brown's Town, we need to stand up against these elements. And so this is also a call to persons within the community to share information with us, share information with the JCF. Of course, we know oftentimes the JCF [is] stretched for resources. So as there may be an increase of police presence, at certain point, it's impossible in instances for the JCF to be everywhere," he acknowledged.
In the meantime, he also called for the authorities to swiftly address the issue of traffic congestion.
