The St. Catherine South Police have identified the three men who were fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police on Wednesday along Mandela Highway.
They are 21-year-old Davian McLean of Cooreville Gardens; Saleem Fitzgerald, also called 'Smeagle', of New Lincoln Road; and 20-year-old Paul Donaldson of Seaview Avenue.
Investigators say the men were linked to a series of armed robberies in the Corporate Area.
Fitzgerald was being sought in connection with the shooting death of Corporal Christopher Smith on December 6, 2024 at a Texico gas station on Beechwood Avenue in St. Andrew.
According to the police, members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) intercepted a black Honda Fit, travelling in the direction of Spanish Town shortly before midday.
The police reported that the occupants opened fire, triggering a shootout that left 'Smeagle' and the two other men fatally wounded. They were taken to Spanish Town Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The police say they seized two illegal firearms following the shooting.
