Police intensify operational activities in St. Andrew South

By Clinton McGregor

The St. Andrew South Police say they have ramped up operational activities in the division, targeting gangs and illegal activities.

Last week, a man who was listed as the division's most wanted fugitive was charged for the murder of a woman in the Nelson Road community off Maxfield Avenue.

Romario Grant, otherwise called 'Kaka' and 'Irons', has been charged for the June 26 murder of Ireen Laing.

On Monday, the Hunts Bay Police seized an AK rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition at an abandoned house in Greenwich Town.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The police say about 12:50 a.m., a team of officers carried out a snap raid in the area where an abandoned house was searched and a Romanian AK rifle plus twenty-eight 7.62 cartridges seized.

Superintendent Damion Manderson, head of the St. Andrew South Division, told Radio Jamaica News that members of his team have been successful in capturing and charging suspects who were wanted for serious crimes in the division.

He said the operational activities are ongoing.
