The incident took place shortly before eight o'clock while the group was conducting house to house campaigning in Tredegar Park.
The St. Catherine North Police have confirmed the incident.
It is reported that Mr. Campbell and a team of about 15 persons were walking when persons hiding in a building opened fire on them.
A member of the group who is a licensed firearm holder fired back and the persons ran in different directions. No one was injured.
RJR News spoke with Mr. Campbell shortly after he gave a statement to the Spanish Town Police Wednesday night.
“I was walking my way back with about 15 supporters and as we reached the Tredegar Park Primary School I heard several explosions coming from the rear of the infant school so I got flat in the proverbial sense and a member of the community just took me into her house,” said Mr. Campbell.
He says six spent shells were found at the scene. Wednesday night's shooting incident came less than a week after People’s National Party and Jamaica Labour Party candidates along with their supporters in St. Catherine pledged to facilitate a peaceful campaign for the General Election.
