The police are trying to determine whether illegal gun salutes led to the shooting of a 14-year-old girl in West Kingston and a security guard in Papine, St. Andrew on Thursday morning.
It is reported that about 12:10 a.m. the 31-year-old guard, a resident of Hope Tavern, St. Andrew, was lying on his bed when he felt a pain in his left shoulder.
He turned on the lights and discovered that he was shot. The guard also observed a bullet hole in his roof.
He then contacted the police and was taken to hospital for treatment.
In the other incident, a 14-year-old student of Tivoli Gardens High School received gunshot injuries to her shoulder. It is reported that she was sitting on the sidewalk in her community along Bond Street in West Kingston when she felt something hit her on the shoulder.
It was then discovered that she had been shot.
She was taken to hospital for treatment.
Investigators theorise that she was shot during celebratory gunfire in the community.
