Investigators on Friday started questioning the girlfriend of Constable Otis Barrett, 42, who was killed early Friday morning in St. Catherine.
Constable Barrett, who was attached to the Mobile Reserve, was at his girlfriend's house in the Rosemount Housing Scheme in Linstead when gunmen reportedly entered the premises and shot him.
He died on the spot.
The girlfriend reportedly told the police that she left him in a bedroom and went into the bathroom and returned to find him dead.
Constable Barrett's murder is the second cop killing in St. Catherine in a week and the eleventh policeman killed since the start of the year.
Last Thursday night Special Corporal Garfield Anderson was shot and killed in at his house in Westchester in Portmore.
And National Security Minister Senator Dwight Nelson has condemned what he described as the calculated, callous and cowardly act that claimed Constable Barrett's life.
The Minister said the continued attacks must be seen as a threat to the nation’s stability.
“I am very distressed at the latest incident of murder of a police officer. Whatever the circumstances the murder of a police officer must be interpreted as an attack against the state, as an attack against law and order and as an attack against the elected authority,” Senator Nelson said.
He noted that the gains made in recent months in the concerted assault against criminal elements must not be eroded; and wanton acts of cowardice must only serve to strengthen the morale and resolve of the brave and courageous men and women of the security forces.
Senator Nelson also appealed to members of the security forces to be extra cautious in their everyday activities.
Senator Nelson offered condolences to Constable Barrett's family, colleagues and friends as they grapple with his untimely passing.
