Police say a man, believed to be Kadoo Sinclair, was shot and killed during an intelligence-led operation in Pleasant Heights, Rockfort, Kingston 2, on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, officers were conducting a search for armed men when they encountered Mr. Sinclair while entering a premises.
Police allege that Mr. Sinclair pointed a firearm at them, prompting the officers to open fire.
He was found suffering from bullet wounds and taken to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say a Beretta 92 nine-millimetre pistol, loaded with three rounds of ammunition, was recovered at the scene.
Authorities allege that Mr. Sinclair was a high-ranking member of the Hills gang and was closely associated with wanted man Junior Creary, also known as 'Whopper', who is wanted for murder in the Kingston Eastern Division.
Police say the area remains a concern and have assessed the risk of reprisal against officers as high.
