Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen
Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Traffic and Highway Division, is again appealing to road users to be vigilant during the holiday period.
SSP Allen is urging motorists to cut their speed and is advising public transport operators to be responsible in their conduct.
"Whilst the police will be out in our numbers along the main corridors, we will be using our breathaliser equipment, but we still want to remind persons (of) the enomous role you play towards your own safety and the safety of your passengers, as also the safety of other road users, to include our pedestrians," said SSP Allen.
"So we just want to implore everyone to go and have fun, enjoy our Independence holidays, but do so with that level of maturity and responsibility as you use the roadway," he implored.
The Road Safety Unit has reported that 205 persons have died in road crashes since the start of the year.
