Police warned to cover up tattoos

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington is frowning on the practice by some members of the police force of sporting tattoos and body piercings.

In a repeat of instructions in his Force Orders of February 5, 2004, the Commissioner noted that it has come to his notice that there are some police personnel with tattoos engraved on visible parts of their bodies.

According to Commissioner Ellington, the variety, sizes and messages being portrayed by these symbols are inimical to the image of the Force, unbecoming of members and are not in the best interest of the organization.

The Commissioner says members must desist from wearing tattoos, body piercings and other portraits as such practices are bringing the force into disrepute.

He has urged Area, Branch and Divisional Commanders to ensure that this topic forms the subject of lectures for the next six weeks.
