One of four police officers charged last year with the escape of a prisoner who was being held at the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay St James has been freed.
Constable Kirton Green was cleared of all charges on Tuesday.
Presiding Judge Carolyn Tie ruled that the evidence presented by prosecutors did not support the charges against the policeman.
The policeman was charged last March with corruptly soliciting money in the performance of his public functions. He was accused of soliciting money for the release of prisoner Greg Taylor.
Allegations are that on January 30, Taylor was taken from the Freeport Station by two police officers. They reported that they were taking him to court in Westmoreland. It's alleged that during the journey they released him and collected the money.
They later reported that Taylor escaped but he found at the home of a female constable who has been charged with harbouring a fugitive.
