Constable Lescene Edwards, the policeman found guilty of killing his girlfriend and writing a suicide note, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Edwards will have to serve 35 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.
The sentence was handed down this afternoon by trial judge, Gloria Smith.
Constable Edwards was found guilty last week for the murder of Aldonna Harris-Vasquez.
Edwards was charged by the Major Investigation Taskforce, MIT, following a probe into the September 2003 death of Mrs Harris-Vasquez, from a gunshot wound at her Pembroke Hall residence in St. Andrew.
The policeman said he found his girlfriend dead in the bathroom, with his service pistol beside her.
He claimed that she left behind a suicide note.
However, prosecutors called a handwriting expert who testified that the note wasn't written by Harris-Vasquez. (more)
Twenty-five witnesses testified during the six week trial in the Home Circuit Court.
