Pope Francis buried after "simplified" funeral service

Pope Francis was buried on Saturday after a “simplfied” service at the Vatican, attended by 250,000 mourners.

The remains of the Pope were interred at Rome’s Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.

The funeral service was conducted by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, who declared that the Pope led with “an open heart toward everyone.”

The roughly two-hour funeral in St. Peter’s Square, was attended by world leaders and many other delegations.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergogli, was the first Latin American pontiff, died on April 21.
