Prime Minister Andrew Holness has admitted that the Jamaican government accepted an offer from the United States government to assist in the military incursion in Tivoli Gardens last year.
The admission has contradicted earlier statements by National Security Minister Dwight Nelson.
The prime minister called an emergency press conference Thursday to clarify the government’s position on the issue.
In defending Mr. Nelson’s denial yesterday, Mr. Holness told journalists that the Ministry of National Security would not have been privy to the details of the assistance being offered.
Major General Anthony Anderson, Jamaica Defence Force Chief of Defence Staff explained that the details of the type of assistance were discussed between the JDF and the relevant U.S. agencies.
A soon to be released report in the US based New Yorker magazine has detailed what it says is assistance rendered by the US to capture former West Kingston strongman, Christopher "Dudus" Coke.
