Probe launched into murder of St. James couple

A probe is in progress into the death of  a man and his common law wife at their house in Middle Road, Glendevon, St James early Monday morning.

They have been identified and Shanvel Edwards and Shantel Wilson both 24 years old. 

The police say  about 3:50, residents heard explosions and the house was later seen on fire. The couple’s remains were discovered in the rubble. According to  police, the incident stemmed from a gang feud in the community. 

In the wake of the double murder, the Member of  Parliament for Western Hanover, Ian Hayles, is calling for the resumption of hanging .

Western Jamaica in particular has recorded an increase in homicides over the past three weeks . On Sunday,  four persons, including two teenagers were killed in Whithorn, Westmoreland .

At a PNP Divisional Conference in Westmoreland on Sunday, Hayles said the shooting in Whithorn, is a sign that more drastic measures should be implemented to stop crime.
