Prof. Errol Miller to act as mediator in JTA presidential row

Errol Miller, Professor Emeritus of  the University of  the West Indies, has accepted a request from the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) to act as mediator in the row over who should be its president-elect.

This is a last ditch attempt by the JTA to have the matter settled out ofcourt. Mediation is expected to begin within weeks.  Doran Dixon, JTA President, told RJR News that the two candidates - Georgia Waugh Richards and Norman Allen - have decided to participate in the process.

The Supreme Court last month granted an injunction, blocking Mr. Allen from taking up the post despite being declared the winner of the election. The injunction was obtained by lawyers representing Mrs. Waugh Richards.
