There is a renewed call for rehabilitation works to be carried out on the Junction Road in St. Mary.

This comes after a truck went over a precipice along Friendship Gap main road on Wednesday afternoon after it developed what is suspected to be a mechanical issue.

The driver and passenger were assisted to hospital.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the embankment and then went over the precipice.

Lorane Ferguson, People's National Party caretaker for South East St. Mary, says a retaining wall could have prevented the truck from falling into the gully.

Mr. Ferguson says the Junction Road is also in need of repair, as he called for the member of Parliament Dr. Norman Dunn to "do something".

"[The road is] in a state of disrepair. I might be next, you might be next. We don't know who will be next, because if you are driving along the road and a vehicle is coming in the opposite direction and you swerve slightly, you gone down the gully. The road need to fix. The road need retaining wall so it can protect both pedestrian and motorist from disaster," he pleaded.
