Residents urge caution as landslides remain in Junction, St. Mary

Residents in Broadside and Mason Yard in St. Mary are calling for the National Works Agency to resume clearing the Junction main road which is being impacted by landslides.
 
Only single lane traffic is allowed along the section of the roadway after a team from the NWA managed to clear some of the debris from the landslides.
 
One resident who spoke with Radio Jamaica News explained that the area is prone to severe flooding and land slippage following a downpour.
 
She said until the NWA team returns, motorists must exercise caution. 
 
"Drive carefully because it's a dangerous road. When it come to rain, it's bad, and we have a lot of flooding, so they have to take care on Junction road. We need wall on the bottom side especially...because right out there suh, it is very, very dangerous. We fraid fi pass here," she said.
 
NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw told Radio Jamaica News that a team had been working to clear the area up to Wednesday night, but was experiencing challenges. 
 
A boulder from a small landslide also destroyed a section of the retaining wall along the roadway on Wednesday night.
 
Another resident said swift action must be taken to address the compromised infrastructure along the main road.
 
He said several unsuspecting motorists could face life threatening situations when traversing the area.
