Former Minister with responsibility for Water, Matthew Samuda, has promised the development of a new water distribution system on George Lee Boulevard in Portmore, St. Catherine.
Mr. Samuda says ground will be broken next year for the water project.
Addressing a JLP South East St. Catherine/Area Council 2 meeting in Portmore, St. Catherine on Sunday, Mr. Samuda said the government acknowledges the water challenges being experienced in sections of Portmore.
But he said the government is committed to providing potable water to the area.
"I want to assure all Jamaicans, even if they live in and have the misfortune of voting for a PNP MP, that we still going fix the water for them because our Jamaicans deserve water. It is why very early next year we will break ground on a new water distribution on George Lee Boulevard for the people of Portmore, whether them live a Braeton, whether them vote PNP or JLP, because JLP say water for Jamaicans; JLP say every single day we will work for you," he declared.
Mr. Samuda was recently sworn in as Member of Parliament for St. Ann North Eastern.
