Classes at Seaforth High School in St. Thomas have been suspended for the day.
Students on the evening shift were advised to stay home. This is due to taxi operators withdrawing their service for a third day to protest the state of the road from Cedar Valley to Morant Bay.
The school, for a second day, had to transport students to the institution.
RJR News spoke with Acting principal Calbert Thomas, as he awaited the return of the school bus to transport another set of students on Wednesday morning. He said the bus had already made three trips and there were still students waiting in Morant Bay to be transported.
The school, which is on a shift system, has since suspended classes for the second session.
Some of the taxi operators early Wednesday morning blocked the Cedar Valley to Morant Bay main road, which was later cleared by the police.
However, Louis Millwood, President of the St. Thomas Taxi Association, declared that he was not in support of the blocking of the road.
He said the taxi operators are staging a peaceful protest until contractors from the National Works Agency begin promised repairs.
"I am awaiting the NWA crew members to start the work that we can see what they are doing to satisfy our disgust. The least we are settling for is just the patching of the road properly," he said.
The operators also erected a makeshift barrier to prevent some of their colleagues, who were not joining in the protest, from transporting passengers. They were ordered by the police to desist.
