Director General at the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, Carol Coy says counting for the 2022 Housing and Population census will continue.
Ms. Coy, who was addressing a press conference on Thursday morning, says the preliminary count carried out by contracted workers is complete.
But she says STATIN employees will now be deployed in the field to rectify any existing gaps identified.
She says STATIN is also prioritising remuneration of its contract workers.
"Counting by our contract workers, that main phase, we have stopped that phase. However, there are persons from STATIN...because we will have to see what areas there is undercounting, those persons will still be going out in the field, and I think some of them are still in the field. But data collection using contract workers, that phase has been completed. Efforts are now focused on the processing of all outstanding payments to census workers," she advised.
The census has been plagued with several issues related to remuneration and missed deadlines for the completion of data collection due to STATIN's inability to retain workers.
