Senator, five councillors referred for investigation by Integrity Commission

One senator and five councillors are among six more public officials referred for investigation by the Integrity Commission for possible illicit enrichment or giving false information.

The referrals were made during the period April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, as detailed in the Commission's 2024-25 annual report.

The report was tabled in the Senate on Friday and later made public.

Since April 2018, the Commission says it has referred a total of 13 members of Parliament, one senator and seven councillors for similar investigations.

The report also revealed that some cases have since been closed after investigation or a preliminary inquiry, including six involving MPs.

Meanwhile, the Integrity Commission says it has completed the examination of all statutory declarations submitted by sitting parliamentarians for the period April 2018-2023.

But the Commission notes that this includes declarations that have been referred for investigation.

It says at the end of the recording period, compliance with the requirement to file statutory declarations stood at 76 per cent for public officials and 81 per cent for parliamentarians.
