The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is to spend approximately $3.2 billion on safety and security at public health facilities across the region.
The authority has signed three-year contracts, which took effect on July 1, with Shock Electronic Security, Marksman and Guardsman security companies.
Shock Electronic Security has been awarded a contract valued at $1.1 billion to provide security services to health care facilities in the Liguanea region in St. Andrew.
Marksman will provide services to the Spanish Town and the Linstead public hospitals and the St. Catherine Health Department under a contract valued at $1.5 billion.
Guardsman has been contracted to serve the Princess Margaret Hospital and St. Thomas Health Department at a cost of $600 million.
SERHA Board Chairman Wentworth Charles said the security of public health institutions remains a top priority.
The security services to be provided under these agreements will include mandatory guarding by trained personnel, compliance with all applicable statutory obligations and adherence to performance standards specified by SERHA.
