SSP Steve McGregor, speaking on Radio Jamaica's 'Hotline' with host Emily Shields
Several persons have been detained for breaching the 10-hour curfew which was imposed Wednesday night to help limit the spread of the coronavirus.
They include a man who was seen on video voicing his refusal to obey the curfew order.
In the video, which has been circulated on social media, the man was seen among a group of persons playing dominoes in Arnett Gardens, Kingston.
He was later picked up by a team led by Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of Operations for Area 4 Headquarters.
SSP McGregor said the operation was not aimed to be a "zero tolerance approach but to get the people off the street and to impress upon them that it is in their best interest to follow the directive of the police".
He said the police will maintain a strong presence to ensure compliance for the remainder of the curfew order.
SSP Mcgregor said the man seen in the video is being processed by the Kingston West police and could be charged, but if he is repentant, the police could consider some leniency.
He was speaking on Radio Jamaica's Hotline programme with host Emily Shields on Thursday.
