Shipment of illegal fireworks seized at warehouse in Kingston

There has been another major contraband seizure at a warehouse on Industrial Terrace in Kingston.

The Customs department indicates that 148 pieces of assorted fireworks were discovered Tuesday afternoon, hidden in a shipment of tyres.

Fireworks are considered prohibited goods and require a permit from the Ministry of National Security for legitimate importation.

In this case, the shipment lacked the necessary permit.

Customs authorities have seized the goods, which will only be released if the required permit is obtained.

Otherwise, the fireworks will be destroyed.

It is believed that the shipment originated from the United States.

This latest bust follows last week's massive gun seizure at the same warehouse, where authorities uncovered 233 firearms and over 40,000 rounds of ammunition.
