Several schools in St. Ann without water after NWC pump vandalised

By Kimone Witter

Several primary and high schools in Brown's Town, St. Ann have had their water supply disrupted due to vandalism at a National Water Commission pumping facility.

The NWC says critical electrical components to operate the pumping unit at the Egypt Relift facility, are among the equipment stolen, which will require significant resources to replace.

The brazen act is on the heels of a similar incident earlier this month at the New Ground Facility, which also resulted in significant damage and disruption.

The NWC says in the latest incident, York Castle High, Brown's Town High and primary schools are without the essential service.

Communities including Ingleside, Orange Hill and Bennin have been affected.

The NWC says the frequency and targeted nature of these incidents suggest a deliberate scheme to disrupt the water supply in St. Ann.

It has condemned these acts of vandalism and says it is working closely with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible.

The company says it is taking additional measures to enhance security at its facilities, including increased surveillance and patrols.

Customers are being urged to report any suspicious activity around NWC facilities to help prevent further incidents.
