Spence-Jarrett gone home?

More than three months after her sudden departure from the government's public broadcasting entity, there is still no official word on a replacement for June Spence-Jarrett.

Mrs. Spence-Jarrett was transferred to the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) after being stripped as head of the Department of Corrections in March after spending two years in the post.

She is now believed to have gone on pre-retirement leave.

However this could not be confirmed.

Mrs. Spence-Jarrett assumed the post of CEO at PBCJ on April 12, and spent a mere three weeks, before what was described as her mysterious exit.

PBCJ sources told RJR News that the agency is anxious to hear when a new CEO will be appointed.

It is understood that senior officials at the Office of the Prime Minister are now involved in an important decision-making process regarding the agency.

When contacted, Mrs. Spence-Jarrett declined to comment and referred RJR News Centre to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Information Minister Daryl Vaz, and Oneika Miller, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, were reportedly out of office when we tried to reach them.

Mrs. Spence-Jarrett was thrown into the public spotlight, earlier this year, following the release of a damning report on a fire at the Armadale Juvenile Correctional Centre.

Seven girls were killed in the raging inferno.
